acac Fitness & Wellness opened its newest location, acac Green Spring, in Lutherville, Maryland, on June 20. acac moved into a space that was vacated by Brick Bodies in May. acac entered the Baltimore market in 2015 when it purchased two Maryland Athletic Club locations.
UFC Gym is planning to enter the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, market in September with a 9,500-square-foot location in Blaine, Minnesota, according to a Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal report. Also this fall, the franchise will open its second Hawaiian location, in Mililani, in a partnership with UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn. UFC Gym will open its fourth Canadian location, in Calgary, on June 25.
CycleBar is expected to open two locations in metro Detroit this summer with plans to open additional metro Detroit locations in five suburbs, according to Crain's Detroit Business. CycleBar is expected to break into more than 50 new markets in 2016. In February, the company said it was on pace to reach its larger goal of having 100 studios open by the end of 2016.
Life Time Fitness is planning to open its a location in Burlington, Massachusetts, according to a Burlington Union report, citing the developer of a 140-acre property. A new, three-story building is expected to offer amenities that include two indoor pools, two outdoor pools, squash courts, a spa and a wellness café.
LA Fitness opened its second Frisco, Texas, location on June 20 with a 38,000-square-foot club at the 100-acre Frisco Market Center development. In New York City on Staten Island, LA Fitness is scheduled to open a 34,000-square-foot location in October after renovations to an existing building are finished, according to a silive.com report.
24 Hour Fitness will hold a grand opening for its new Escondido, California, location on June 25. The new club joined the Westfield North County Mall shopping complex, which recently completed a $55 million revitalization project.
Planet Fitness may open its second location in Columbus, Georgia, in August at Manchester Square, according to a Ledger-Enquirer report. Danni Allen, season 14 winner of "The Biggest Loser," will attend the grand opening at the Zanesville, Ohio, location on June 28. A third Planet Fitness is coming to the Lansing, Michigan, area in September with a 20,000-square-foot location in Holt, according to a FOX 47 report.
MUV Brands recently opened a 29,000-square-foot MUV Fitness facility in West Columbia, South Carolina. The new club gives MUV Fitness six locations in the Columbia, South Carolina, market and 10 locations overall. Additional locations are under development in South Carolina and Oregon, according to the franchise. MUV Brands is also developing additional locations for its MUV Training boutique concept in multiple markets.
Retro Fitness has opened its second Utah location in Cedar City with an 18,500-square-foot facility, according to a Cedar City News / St. George News report.
Orangetheory Fitness recent announced five new locations in its southern Virginia region (Midlothian, Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, Newport News and Virginia Beach), according to WTVR-TV. Orangetheory is expected to open its 21st Colorado location with a 3,200-square-foot gym in Denver's Uptown neighborhood on July 1. A fourth Orangetheory Fitness location in the Arlington, Virginia, area is expected to open in the Clarendon neighborhood in October. Earlier this week, Orangetheory Fitness CEO Dave Long spoke with Club Industry about the franchise's expansion plans for 2017.
Tru Fit Athletic Clubs opened in May in a former Bally Total Fitness Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Tru Fit, which has six Denver-area locations and more in Texas, is the third fitness club to take over the site since Bally closed the location in 2014, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Ohio State University-Newark is renovating about 10,000 square feet in Adena Hall into a recreation and fitness facility, according to a Newark Advocate report. The $3.7 million project cost is funded with state money from OSU-Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.
