A health club owner who pleaded guilty to health care fraud in U.S. District Court on Monday faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Gary Wannemacher, owner of Spring Creek Athletic Club in Springville, NY, admitted to submitting fraudulent claims to insurance companies between January 2009 and December 2012, according to an article on BuffaloNews.com. Private health insurance companies reimbursed Wannemacher for health programs for individuals who never attended them.

Wannemacher received reimbursement for two individuals he claimed attended health programs put on by his company, but those individuals had been confirmed dead by authorities. In other cases, he claimed reimbursement for a Silver Sneakers exercise program in which some of the participants were out of town or could not exercise after surgery.

Wannemacher will be sentenced on Sept. 21, the article says.
