Genesis Health Clubs Owner Continues Push after Property Tax Break Bill Is Tabled

A bill in the Kansas Legislature that would have given a property tax break to for-profit health club owners has been tabled, as has a bill that would have removed tax exemptions for YMCAs in the state.

Rodney Steven, owner of Genesis Health Clubs, Wichita, KS, says he is not happy that a bill in the Kansas Legislature that would have given a property tax break to for-profit health club owners in the state has been tabled.

But Steven went on to say he was not surprised when the Kansas House of Representatives tabled Senate Bill 72 last week in Topeka.

"Nothing that happens in the capital shocks me anymore," Steven told Club Industry in an email.
