McKinley Fitness Center Opens in Former YMCA

After the McKinley Family YMCA in Champaign County (IL) relocated to its newly built facility in southwest Champaign in February, the McKinley Fitness Center took its place to offer its members the use of two swimming pools, a gymnasium and fitness facilities. The for-profit fitness center, which held a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday but has been in operation since mid-March, has about 100 members, most of whom use the facility's two pools.

Leon Jeske, the owner of the building, has been making renovations not only to the facility's fitness areas but also to rooms that were part of the original Phillippe mansion, a private residence built around 1910, the The News-Gazette reported. On the main floor, a child care area has been turned into a sitting room featuring a fireplace and bay window. To the west of the entrance is a parlor with a piano.

The renovation is still a work in progress. Upstairs, McKinley's former board room is being renovated for a yoga studio. Across the hall, the former director's office has been remodeled for possible leasing.

Earlier this month, the McKinley Fitness Center began offering group fitness classes for yoga, Zumba, stretching, interval training and boot camps, according to the newspaper.

Membership in the center is $40 per month for individuals, $60 per month for couples and $20 per month for youth.
