Dallas YMCA Receives Anonymous $3 Million Donation

The White Rock YMCA, Dallas, recently received an anonymous $3 million donation that will go toward a new gymnasium and outdoor pool.

The donation is part of a fundraising campaign that the Y expects to complete by next January. Currently, the Y is $2 million away from its $14 million goal. As a challenge grant, the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation will donate the last $500,000 of the campaign if the Y is able to raise $1.5 million by January, the Y said.

The White Rock Y's name was officially changed last week from the YMCA at White Rock.

"We presented to our board of directors, who made the recommendation to the YMCA of the USA to change the name to the White Rock YMCA," Gordon Echtenkamp, president and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, said in a statement. "So we're excited about that because that's what you called us anyways."

Last November, the Moody Foundation donated $8 million to the YMCA of Dallas to support the building of the new Moody Family YMCA in Park Cities, TX. The building will replace the current 63-year-old Park Cities YMCA. Construction is expected to begin once the Y receives $22 million in pledges. The Y expects the new building to open by the end of 2015.
