YMCA Roundup: Ys Unveil Expansions and Renovations in Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas

The Salem Family YMCA has launched a campaign to build a 68,000-square-foot facility in downtown Salem, Oregon, according to a report by the Statesman Journal. At least $6 million is required to initially finance the $26.5 million project, which is slated to begin construction in February 2019. Amenities will include a gym, cafe, indoor track, group exercise studios and community meeting room. The facility is expected to attract approximately 5,000 members and generate $600,000 in annual revenue.

The Greater Scranton YMCA on June 19 held a renovation celebration at its Dunmore, Pennsylvania, branch after the completion of a nearly $2 million renovation project, according to the Y. Dunmore's membership has almost quadrupled since 2012, prompting a new locker room, indoor cycling room, event space and physical therapy suite. Future Dunmore upgrades will include an improved ceiling, lighting and acoustics in the pool area.

After breaking ground in April 2017, the Bill Bartley Family Branch YMCA, Wichita Falls, Texas, held its grand opening on June 19. The opening is part of the YMCA of Wichita Fall's $14 million capital expansion project, according to Texomas, which will support additional facility openings. One of the new facility's centerpieces is the Stephens Family Gymnastics Center featuring in-ground trampolines and Olympic-size spring floors.

The commissioners of Caroline County, Maryland, on June 12 signed an agreement that will provide 15 acres of land in Denton to the YMCA of the Chesapeake to serve as the site of the county's first full-service Y facility, according to the Times-Record. The agreement allows the Y until July 2023 to secure water and sewer allocations, as well as raise funds for design and construction. Since 2011, the Y has operated a small branch in nearby Denton Plaza.

The ongoing capital campaign to renovate the Northern Lights YMCA's Dickinson Program Center, Iron Mountain, Michigan, is only $25,000 away from reaching its goal of $2.4 million, according to The Daily News. A private campaign started in 2016, but in January, the Y went public with the campaign to raise the final $650,000 required to refurbish the nearly 50-year-old building and rebuild its pool. The campaign is set to conclude on June 30.
