McDonald’s Gives Out Trial Health Club Memberships

McDonald's restaurants on the East Coast are giving an added bonus to those ordering salads - a trial health club membership.

The fast-food chain is pairing up with local health clubs and gymnasiums in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and New York to encourage patrons to make healthy lifestyle choices. The coupon for a free two-week trial membership to participating facilities is attached to the lid of McDonald’s premium salads. The program started just a week ago and will continue through October.

The Curves in Gardiner, Maine is participating in the program and thinks it’s a good idea. Although no one has come in to redeem their coupon, one person has called to inquire about the promotional offer.

“We thought it was nice, because we do feel that McDonald’s is changing their menu,” said Linn Andrews, fitness technician at the Curves in Gardiner. “As long as you choose healthy choices, you can eat really well there.”

And not just customers are being rewarded. For collaborating with McDonald’s, Andrews said each Curves employee received a one-dollar-off coupon for a premium salad.

“It’s a good way to get people to try their healthy food,” she said.
