Man Stabbed Outside LA Fitness Club

A 50-year-old man is now in stable condition after being stabbed Sunday outside an LA Fitness club in North Hollywood, CA. The man was wounded after a quarrel with another man, said Lt. Bob Toledo of the Los Angeles Police North Hollywood Division. Both men had been inside the club prior to the stabbing.

The victim suffered stab wounds in his upper torso and chest, and returned to the club for assistance. A club employee called the police. An ambulance took the victim to a hospital, where he was in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Police could not say what led to the quarrel, and LA Fitness did not return calls about the membership status of the two men. Toledo says the men were seen both inside and outside the club that morning.

"We don't know the motive, but we know that at some point, the suspect was observed with a weapon, and it was brought to the attention of a witness in [the club]," he says. "A short time later, both men went outside, the man was stabbed, and then he came back into the club for help."

The suspect is believed to be between 45 and 60 years old, and he fled the scene in a dark SUV with out-of-state license plates. The LAPD is working with the club's manager to obtain security video footage and are still looking for the suspect, Toledo says.
