Fitness Pros Make the News

NEW YORK — One struck it rich and the other is getting hitched, throwing both fitness industry professionals into the spotlight of the national news. Brad Duke, a manager at a Gold's Gym in Treasure Valley, ID, won the $220.3 million Powerball jackpot in late May. It was the second largest single-ticket Powerball win ever. Duke requested a lump sum payment, which should net him $85 million. He told the Multi-State Lottery Association that he intends to continue working although no word whether that means he'll continue at the Gold's Gym facility.

Mark Dale, a general manager of a health club in Maryland, was chosen along with his fiancée, Sarah Raley, to be the next couple to get married on the Today show. This is the sixth year that the NBC morning news program has married a couple on the show. As part of the process, viewers of the Today show choose every aspect of the wedding from the rings, the wedding dress and tux to the cake and the honeymoon destination. The wedding is planned for this fall in the couple's hometown of Valley Lee, MD.
