Gold's Gym International unveiled its Dallas flagship facility with a grand opening party, “An Exhibitionist Evening,” on Jan. 25. Six hundred people attended the event, where the gym and local artists displayed one-of-a-kind exhibits of physical beauty. During the event, Gold's Gym Uptown made nearly $10,000 in membership sales. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Open Doors Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that creates opportunities for young people to achieve their dreams.

The Sports Club/LA is venturing out of California next year with its first club in Dallas. The new facility will be an 80,000-square-foot, $35 million luxury sports and fitness complex offering more than 30 sports and fitness options under one roof. The club will include: a lobby of stone and woods showcasing a reflection pool and three-story window wall; a 15,000-square-foot weight training gym; a 150-piece cardiovascular center with each piece of equipment featuring a personal TV; and an NBA-size gymnasium with two basketball courts.

East Shore Athletic Club, Charleston, SC, was named the seventh-fastest growing company in the Charleston region by the Charleston Regional Business Journal in late January. The publication gave awards to 20 businesses. East Shore has grown from three locations in Mt. Pleasant, to eight locations in the Charleston area.

Matrix Fitness Systems named Mark Zabel as vice president of global marketing. In the newly created position, Zabel will report to Matrix President Chris Clawson.

The Make a Splash campaign, a public service initiative of USA Swimming, launched in late February. The campaign is aimed at decreasing the number of drowning accidents in the United States, fostering greater diversity in the sport and encouraging people of all ages to embrace swimming. The first phase of the campaign will be executed through a number of new programs and partnerships. Also, three USA Swimming representatives will speak at the 2007 World Aquatic Health(tm) Conference, scheduled for Oct. 2-4 in Cincinnati, OH. The seminars will reflect the broader USA Swimming focus.

Retention Management® formed an alliance with Johnson Health Tech, one of the leading providers of fitness equipment in the European market. In the alliance, Johnson Health Tech will be responsible for the sales and marketing of Retention Management's service while Retention Management will provide the ongoing service delivery. The UK market will be the focus in the first year with additional European markets to follow.
