  • Naval Station Everett in Everett, WA, held its annual Fitness Challenge Week last month to promote health and fitness. The first event of the week, The Average Joe Triathlon, drew more than 50 participants. Sailors also participated in the Island Pool Relay, Backwoods Olympics, a dodgeball tournament and a health fair.

  • Pre-sale memberships are underway for Club One Inc.'s newest fitness center scheduled to open this month. Located in the Silver Creek community just south of San Jose, CA, the 60,000-square-foot fitness club marks Club One's fifth addition to the South Bay, CA, area. The center will be located in the 200,000-square-foot Silver Creek Sportsplex, a family sports facility featuring in-line hockey rinks, soccer fields, restaurants and retail space.

  • The National Academy of Sports Medicine launched the third edition of its Certified Personal Trainer certification. The revised certification is a modification of the organization's evidence-based training methodology to better address the needs of the general fitness client. The program also includes interactive learning formats, such as DVDs, iPod downloads and an online course learning management system.

  • The Denny Price Family YMCA in Enid, OK, began a fundraising campaign to finance a renovation to expand the cardio and weightlifting areas, develop a teen fitness area, and construct a nursery and administrative offices, according to The Enid News & Eagle. The $1.6 million project will expand the facility by 5,775 square feet.
