Thin Ice System Launches Crowdfunding Campaign For World's First App-Connected Weight Loss Clothing Line

TORONTO— Today the Thin Ice System, world’s first app-connected smart clothing line for weight loss, launched its second round of crowdfunding via a proprietary campaign on its website, The campaign allows backers to pre-order the 2.0 version of the Thin Ice vest at a discounted price of $165.00, with fulfillment expected by December of 2016. Thin Ice works by strategically cooling thermoreceptors along the upper chest and back to stimulate the body’s brown fat pathways. Brown fat is clinically proven to help the body burn white fat (bad fat) to maintain constant temperature when exposed to cold. The vest’s cooling effect is achieved through battery-powered Peltier cooling chips integrated into the vest’s design, and a proprietary patent-pending heat dissipation system invented by Thin Ice. The app controls the temperature of the vest, tracks the estimated amount of calories burned, and includes “badges” that can be unlocked by reaching various health goals.

Based on peer-reviewed studies on brown fat stimulation through cooling, an estimated additional 500-1,000 calories a day can be burned by wearing the vest under clothing while doing passive activities such as desk work, driving, or sleeping.

The company previously completed a crowdfunding campaign for an earlier version of the vest in 2015 that finished at almost $600,000 USD; units supported by this funding round are currently in manufacturing and will be shipping to early backers in June. Upgrades to the 2.0 are based on further discoveries by the Thin Ice team in conjunction with a team of researchers and doctors at York University in Toronto and include innovative battery-life conservation mechanisms, body temperature tracking that can adjust the temperature of the vest to counteract changes in the user and environment, replaceable rechargeable batteries, and the ability to machine-wash some components.

Thin Ice was created by personal trainer and former NCAA Athlete Adam Paulin, who studied neuroscience and psychology at the University of Toronto. Paulin noticed that the biggest factor stopping people from sticking to an effective weight-loss regime was convenience. Paulin began to wonder if there was a way to accelerate his clients’ results without them needing to put in additional effort and time exercising.
