As smartphones and tablets become a bigger part of health club members’ daily lives, operators and manufacturers are trying to keep them engaged and satisfy their growing need for technology. The growth of Internet-enabled cardio equipment since 2010 is a prime example of this shift.

In a recent survey conducted by Life Fitness, Schiller Park, IL, one-third of the participants surveyed said they would consider switching to clubs that have Internet-enabled equipment, says Matt Bren
