Equinox Expands in Texas with First Houston Club

The new Equinox club will be located in the recently opened River Oaks District.

Equinox, New York, is planning to open its third club in Texas and first Houston location with a 33,000-square-foot center in the new River Oaks District.

Equinox River Oaks will be located at 4444 Westheimer Road and is expected to open Dec. 3. The two already-existing Equinox locations are in Dallas.

"Not only is Houston one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, it also boasts a sophisticated population with a strong health and wellness orientation, which perfectly aligns with the Equinox lifestyle," Equinox Chief Development Officer Jeff Weinhaus told the Houston Business Journal. "The site in the River Oaks District has allowed us to build a true Equinox flagship, amongst an incredible roster of co-tenants in the center of a broad and dynamic trade area."

The River Oaks District opened in October 85 percent leased with 95 percent of the retailers new to the Houston market, according to the Journal.  Other tenants include Cartier, Tom Ford and iPic-Gold Class Entertainment LLC's luxury movie theater. The development includes 92,000 square feet of office space and 279 apartments.

"Luxury knows no limit at Equinox River Oaks, a stunning sanctuary of health and wellness, positioned at the heart of a beautiful new high-end retail complex," the Equinox River Oaks website states. "This expansive club marks our arrival in Houston, augmenting our Texas portfolio and providing a gracious social hub for a well-heeled community with a passion for fitness."

Equinox has 81 clubs across the country, including one club in England.
